INTERN COMPANY
Professional Interns work directly with department managers and staff,
receiving hands-on training in either administration or technical theatre.
Internships are available as full-season or part-season contracts, at
the discretion of the department. Internships are vital staff positions
at this nationally recognized professional theatre acclaimed for its
innovative programming and strong business acumen.Interns take leadership positions
on Apprentice/Intern Company projects throughout the season, and are
directly involved in regular season productions.
Interns are selected by application and interview with department managers.
It is possible to arrange course credit with the interns academic
institution.

PLEASE NOTE: Actors Theatre does not charge
a fee for intern company membership, nor does it provide a stipend.
Each candidate must provide for his or her living, housing and transportation
expenses. The theatre and its support group, Actors Associates, provide
assistance in finding housing and getting acquainted with the Louisville
community.
INTERNSHIPS
APPRENTICE/INTERN COMPANY ADMINISTRATION
Excellent opportunity for emerging professionals in arts management, actor training, casting, and/or production management. Assist company directors in producing the Apprentice/Intern Company season, as well as taking lead on producing A/I Company independent projects. Support the recruitment process, including coordinating all auditions for the Apprentice Company (may include some travel). Observe and assist in preparing and teaching classes as needed. Assist in the organization of day-to-day Company activities.

ARTS ADMINISTRATION/COMPANY MANAGEMENT
Observe rehearsals, maintain communication with artists, designers and
other regional theatres, assist in research and development of specific
projects and routine clerical functions. Schedule general audition appointments.
Respond to mail or phone inquiries about casting or other employment
opportunities, maintaining files and correspondence. Initiate contact
with contracted artists, providing hands-on facilitation of all transport
and housing requirements. Provide contact to the professional staff
with ongoing communication, manage multiple projects and deadlines.

COSTUMES
Serve as assistants to visiting costume designers, pull rentals, coordinate
production paperwork and research. Become an integral part of a resident
design/build team. Portfolio-building opportunities to design Apprentice/Intern
Company productions throughout the season. Journeyman and intern positions
available.
Internships Offered: Journeyman position is full season, internship is partial season or by availability.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS & FESTIVAL MANAGEMENT
This position is an excellent opportunity for an emerging professional in event management and/or community and public relations. Develop relationships with a wide variety of local, regional and national community groups. Assist in the planning and execution of community events both in and around the theatre. Produce publications and flyers, coordinate exhibits and merchandise displays as well as manage volunteers. Assist in the planning and execution of one of the American theatre’s most prestigious new play events through registration coordination, onsite event hospitality and travel/lodging coordination.

DEVELOPMENT
Exciting opportunity to gain invaluable fundraising skills from a top Louisville nonprofit organization that is also a leader in the field. Assist the entire development staff with all aspects relating to partner, donor and prospect relationships, including mailings, special events and more. Work with donors in all markets of fundraising, including individuals, corporations, foundations and government. Learn Raiser’s Edge software to assist with general donor database maintenance, integrating information from Raiser’s Edge and Excel to analyze existing donor patterns and develop new reports to manage prospect tracking. Support the planning and coordination of a major yearly fundraising event attended by over 750 guests. Work in conjunction with marketing department to implement benefits to corporate donors and assist with special events and Humana Festival weekends.

DIRECTING
Immerse yourself in observing some of the finest directors in the country, while assistant directing on 3-4 shows. Get hands-on experience directing scenes, ten minute plays and monologue work with the Acting Apprentices. Meet regularly with the Artistic Director and Associate Artistic Director. Note that this is equal parts directing and observship, so the candidate needs to be far enough along in their development to know how to learn from watching and comparing different directing techniques. Past directors at Actors include: Anne Bogart, Michael John Garcés, Chay Yew and Peter Dubois.

DRAMATURGY/LITERARY MANAGEMENT
Participate in all administrative and artistic aspects of one of the
busiest Literary Departments in the country. Conduct research for classical
and premiere productions, attend rehearsals, write articles for newsletters
and programs and assist on various publication projects. Help evaluate
and write reports on submissions of new plays, assist with production
dramaturgy and participate in administration of the ten-minute play
contest and playwriting workshops. Work in key collaborative positions
on Apprentice/Intern Company productions.

EDUCATION
Join Team Education at Actors Theatre as Education Intern/Teaching Artist and contribute to creating nearly 30,000 artistic / learning experiences for young people annually. Serve as artistic/education ambassador throughout our region’s public and private schools conducting pre-show workshops and leading playwriting residencies. Develop lesson plans, research and write study guides, and collaborate with just about every department at Actors Theatre, while contributing to the Humana Festival College Days Weekend and the New Voices Young Playwrights Festival. MARKETING
Marketing, Public Relations and Graphic Design Internships
Gain experience in marketing, public relations or graphic design in a hands-on, fast-paced department.
Marketing Internship -
Assist with promotion and sales of subscriptions, single tickets and group tickets, including mailings, special events, on-site promotions and more. Learn marketing strategies involving targeted efforts to key constituencies to attract new patrons.
Public Relations Internship -
Assist with public relations, media and non-transactional communications, including pitching stories to local and national media, interview coordination, writing press
releases and more. Learn public relations strategies involving outreach efforts, community relations and social media.
Graphic Design Internship -
Assist with creation of graphic materials to support the needs of the organization, including design for apprentice projects and performances, education materials and more. Learn about layout of ads, programs,

SOUND DESIGN

STAGE MANAGEMENT
Work side by side with Equity stage managers, directors, and actors. Be involved in the entire rehearsal and performance process for mainstage productions. Work with visiting companies and directors. Serve as production stage manager for at least one Apprentice/Intern production. Stage Management Intern positions are a part of the Equity Membership Candidacy program. TECHNICAL DIRECTION
This position is designed as a real-time overview of all technical aspects of production in a major regional theatre. Learn to manage multiple shows in rotating rep, research and develop special projects in conjunction with technical management, and construct precision scenery in accordance with design drawings. Experience problem solving strategies in resource management during the world-renowned Humana Festival of New American Plays, and assist in the development, installation and maintenance of scenery while learning to resolve challenges in the mechanical and structural aspects of moving scenery and motion control.
